Comfort and tradition

I'm on the road. Sleeping in a different bed each night
has its benefits and drawbacks.
Some nights I'd give anything for a softer mattress, or
for the hotel walls to grow thicker.
So this post is more about comfort than style.
I don't know why these tall four-poster beds
seem so luxurious and inviting.

Snow white

November has cast a chill over the city.
It's the season of white blankets, smokey fireplaces
and coffee with cream and cinnamon.
Lovely as it sounds, I'm planning to escape
to some warmer place.
I can't wait!

The secret life of chairs

The armchairs and sofas in Tobias Harvey's photographs
have so much character.
Also, they seem to be quietly enjoying their solitude.

A touch of black

So graphic, so versatile. Can't help but love black.

Design classic

OK, they may be slightly overpraised (and overpriced), but they they do look plush.
The Barcelona chairs are a design classic. They are to a modern room like a string of Chanel's
pearls to a black dress. After all, they were designed for the Spanish King and Queen.
The Mies van der Rohe pavilion, where the chairs and the ottomans were first exhibited in 1929, remains one of my favorite places on earth. There you can really appreciate the beauty of van der Rohe's creation.
To be fair though, it must be said that they aren't all that comfortable.
But then again, I imagine haute couture isn't always...comfortable...either?

Weekend escape

Lately we've been joking that by Lithuanian standards,
such weather is too good even for September.
Confused by the sunny skies, a field of poppies has blossomed
somewhere in Lithuania.
Global warming? Perhaps.
But for now I really don't mind it staying that way...

On this sunny occasion, I'd like to welcome
you to my dream rustic retreat (one of them, that is).
What won my heart was the tiny garden table
with fragrant morning coffee
for one.

Mark my words

I've been so unpractical lately with my posts, so today we're talking...
blackboards. No, not those sinister objects from bygone school years.
Rather, blackboards (or walls painted with chalkboard paint) in the kitchen or dining area,
for penning down recipes, reminders, inspirational quotes or drawing a caricature or two.
Particularly helpful to absent-minded cooks like me.
