Ethnic vibes

Bold patterns of ethnic textiles add so much character to interiors.
Authentic hand woven, embroidered cushions and throws are a great
investment - they last forever and can be passed from one generation to
the next. If you happen to possess such treasures - whether
Oriental, Native American or Scandinavian - show them off!

Under construction

In a couple of months this will have to be a tiny, cozy café.
A friend has generously asked me to help out, so now I spend my nights
hunting for inexpensive café interior ideas.

Shades of blue

Powder blue, sky blue, light blue, tiffany blue, turquoise...
Now that outside the window all is white, I'm craving a little color.

Debatable decor

This is a tricky one.
Are animal trophies (taxidermy heads, horns) a good way of decorating
your home? It's true they look macabre, but also somewhat enchanting.
It is hard to understand why such items have retained popularity. Perhaps,
ironically, they are the last reminders of nature in our lives.
I am by no means encouraging buying new ones.
However, if I happened to stumble upon an old piece in a flea market,
I would consider purchasing...simply because the animal that was killed for
this piece of decoration deserves better than to gather dust in the salesman's
basement.
I'm glad there is now so much choice in faux "trophies" - wood, plastic,
paper mache, wire etc. Check out these beauties from artist Anna Wili Highfield -
so much better than the real thing, aren't they...

Dream a little dream: romantic bedrooms

If you are anything like me, lately you've been having
difficulty getting out of bed. Oh, the darkness, ouch, the cold...
I could hide between sheets all day, drifting from one dream to another.
In a bedroom like one of these, what excuse would one have not to?

The ingredients for a perfect classic romantic bedroom are easy to identify:
quality sheets (think natural-colored linen), a large antique mirror, subtle artwork,
pretty bedside lamps, a few antique pieces here and there.
And a grand chandelier, got to have one.

Bohemian charms

This pretty bohemian style apartment has it all: beautiful light,
picturesque peeling walls, the right amount of the right kind of
antiques, a simple and functional kitchen, a gorgeos bath,
a poster bed... It is a teeny bit too girly for my taste, but I love it anyway.
It's like admiring on someone else a breathtakingly beautiful dress
you probably wouldn't wear yourself.
