Pale and interesting

Today I went through hundreds of interior images,
but only when I saw Dave Coote's designs, did my eyes light up.
Literally, too, as most of his interiors are so white...
Furniture and interiors designer Dave Coote has certainly mastered a style.
I was looking for a word to describe it and the best I came up with
was "cabin romantic". He actually builds cabins, so it's no coincidence.
I love the way Coote uses reclaimed materials - garden furniture,
vintage mirrors, industrial lamps. And those great worn-out leather
armchairs everywhere! The result is very casual yet achingly romantic.
(Pity the pciture quality isn't very good though)

The house with a view

I was looking for something inspirational to start the week.
Something to lift the spirits, you know.
But perhaps this is not quite motivating.
I'm not sure whether it makes me want to sell my soul for a million or two,
or just drop all and go live in a tent by the sea.
Always that dilemma, eh.

DIY WEEKEND

Distressed mirrors

I am fascinated by old mirrors. I know some superstitious folks say
they are dangerous "energy vampires", but I couldn't care less.
They add so much charm to any interior.
So this weekend I intended to try and age a mirror or two,
to get this much sought after "antique" affect.

However, removing the protective paint coating on the mirror's back turned out to be quite a challenge. It wouldn't react to either paint remover or
acid. So we just scratched the edges and painted them black.
I like the result, it's graphic and bold.

These boots are made for walking

Rain is to blame for this post.
That horrible wet feet sensation...urgh.
The very sight of these shiny boots makes me feel better.

Today's mood

Love this dreamy, picturesque hotel.
Time seems to have stopped here.

DIY WEEKEND

Crafty DIY'ers have come up with numerous brilliant storage ideas.
Here's what you can do when if don't want (or can't afford) a ready-made wardrobe,
chest-of-drawers or shelving.

And here's where we're keeping our clothes from now on (it's crazy what a couple of months of living without any kind of clothes' storage can do to a girl).
These mobile plywood units took about two evenings to construct. We would have prefered using old wooden boards, but couldn't get hold of any, so went for this option. It is still pretty wallet-friendly.
Such basic constructions can be used anywhere, from the wardrobe to the kitchen;
the great thing is you can drag them where you need them.

Raw beauty

My concrete kitchen countertop
has finally arrived.

My boyfriend and I were not brave enough as to
try and make it ourselves. The look is
not as industrial as I would have liked it, but hey - we'll do better next time.

Even though I find brutalist architecture a bit, well, too brutal, I'm all for concrete elements in interiors. It is a cold material, but beautiful (if properly used).
