Le noir, c'est chic

 

Black stone, black ceramic tiles, black doors... Dark elements make these bathrooms

seem so elegant. But I keep wondering how often such black surfaces need to

 be cleaned. I mean, limescale shows on black more than it does on white,

 right? Doesn't it become kinda bothersome in the long run?.. Maybe I'm just lazy.

Or maybe chic bathrooms are immune to limescale.

Juodas akmuo, juoda keramika, juodos durys. Blizgūs tamsūs elementai

suteikia šioms vonioms prabangos ir elegancijos įspūdį. Tik aš vis susimąstau, kaip

dažnai tokius paviršius reikėtų valyti. Juk ant juodo paviršiaus kalkių

dėmės matosi labiau nei ant balto, ar ne? Bet gal aš tiesiog tinginė. Arba elegantiškose

voniose nesusidaro kalkės.

Wonderland white

Yesterday I woke up to an all-white landscape.

So beautiful, all that pristine snow sparkling in the sun.

In no time it will be muddy and ugly, but for now I live in Wonderland.

Bohemian apartment in Calcutta

This art gallery of an apartment is located in the historic Metropolitan Building in Calcutta,

which was once home to Asia's largest departmental store. Here, the ceilings are 6 meters

 tall and the floors in some of the rooms are covered in Carrara marble.

In this gracious setting, art collector and dealer Surajit Bomti Iyenagar has created a 

fascinating collage of valuable objects and vibrant colors. Each corner speaks volumes!

I imagine a select crowd of Indian intellectuals seated round the table enjoying a fragrant dinner,

conversing passionately about art, history and antiques.





Šis spalvingas butas įsikūręs istoriniame Metropoliteno pastate Kalkutoje; čia kažkada

šurmuliavo didžiausia Azijos universalinė parduotuvė. Lubos butuose sieka šešis metrus, o

grindys išklotos Carrara marmuru... Šiame įspūdingame fone meno kolekcionierius ir
prekiautojas Surajit Bomti Iyenagar sukūrė tikrą meno objektų ir ryškių spalvų
 koliažą. Čia kiekvienas kampas pasakoja istoriją! Įsivaizduoju rinktinę Indijos
intelektualų kompaniją, prie kvapnios vakarienės aistringai diskutuojančią apie meną,
 istoriją ir senovinius daiktus.

Shabby poetic

The Maven Collective store in Portland is the brainchild of Jacklyn Arvin and three vintage
 vendors: Kim Ludy, Sue Teso and Rebekah Dortmund. On offer - vintage clothing, furniture and home accessories. I admire the simple, harmonious and modern presentation. Every object
 seems to have found its natural place. I'd call this style shabby poetic - a very restrained and masculine cousin of shabby chic.

 

The Maven Collective parduotuvę Portlende įkūrė Jacklyn Arvin su trijomis vintage daiktais ir drabužiais prekiaujančiomis moteriškaitėmis - Kim Ludy, Sue Teso ir Rebekah Dortmund. 

Čia galima įsigyti įvairaus amžiaus ir įvairių stilių drabužių, baldų ir namų aksesuarų. Mane žavi prekių parinkimas ir pristatymas - labai paprastas, harmoningas ir modernus. Kiekvienas objektas atrodo radęs savo vietą. Aš pavadinčiau šį stilių shabby poetic (poetiškai nudėvėtas) - tai toks neperkrautas ir nenusaldintas shabby chic (stilingai nudėvėto) pusbrolis.

 Room Nr. 2 (Micasa) has my dream floor tiles, room Nr. 6 (ESNY) - a

great natural fiber rug I've been looking for and never found (for the right price,

that is...) And love that naughty painting.

Dream getaway in the Caucasus mountains

I'm not a huge fan of mountainous regions, but places like this one could make me
 change my mind. The Rooms Hotel in Stepantsminda (formerly Kazbegi), Georgia, is as
 masterful a transformation of a Soviet resort building as one could imagine. The
exterior has been given a simple and efficient brick and steel makeover, while the interior is
a modern interpretation of traditional chalet style spiced up with industrial elements.
It looks like the furniture is by the Belgian company Flamant.

The team behind the project: young Georgian designers Nata Janberidze & Keti

Toloraia, founders of the design company Rooms. Nata and Keti have also have a bunch of other
beautiful design projects under their belts.

The Rooms Hotel made me think of Thomas Mann's "The Magic Mountain": surrounded
 by such breathtaking scenery and supreme comfort, one could easily loose sense of time...

Nesu didelė kalnuotų vietovių mėgėja, bet tokios vietelės kaip ši galėtų priverstų mane
pakeisti nusistatymą. The Rooms Hotel Stepantsmindos miestelyje Gruzijoje
(anksčiau miestelis vadinosi Kazbegi) - itin vykęs sovietinių poilsio namų restauracijos
projektas. Fasadas atgaivintas plytų ir metalo pagalba, o viduje - skoningas
tradicinio chalet ir industrinio stilių derinys. Kiek matyti, dauguma baldų
The Rooms viešbutyje yra belgų gamintojų Flamant.

Projekto autorės - jaunos Gruzijos kūrėjos Nata Janberidze & Keti Toloraia.
Kartu merginos yra įkūrę interjero dizaino kompaniją Rooms ir įgyvendinę ne vieną
 sėkmingą interjero ir baldų dizaino projektą. 

The Rooms Hotel man priminė Tomo Mano "Užburtąjį kalną". Tokio grožio ir komforto
apsuptyje, manau, galima greitai prarasti laiko nuovoką...
