Cafe mural: adding an ethnic touch

Moksha the restaurant was in need of some allusion to Indian culture

 (it does, after all, specialize in Indian and Thai cuisine). We had been staring at this

 white wall for a while, not sure what to do with it - mirrors, photographs, the menu

board?... And then it dawned on us. A mural! 

I was amazed to discover how rich Indian art tradition was. There 

are all these wonderful painting styles that make one's head spin with pattern

 and color variety. We took inspiration from examples of gond art, practiced by the largest

tribe in central India. Traditionally these magical paintings were done by the women

 of the village on the walls of their houses using simple homemade colors -

ochre, brown, black.

 It took us four talented hands and a few hours to grow a delicate tree in the middle

of the restuarant. A cow and a bird also came to stay... This cute trio has added a 

touch of warmth and sweetness to Moksha.

Mažojo restoranėlio "Moksha" interjere labai trūko indiškų motyvų

(juk čia gaminami indiški ir tailandietiški patiekalai). Jau kurį laiką svarstėme,

kaip išnaudoti lygią baltą sieną - gal kabinti veidrodžius, gal nuotraukas, o gal

meniu lentą? Tada kilo mintis: kodėl gi jos neištapius?...

Mane užbūrė Indijos meno įvairovė. Daugybė nuostabių tapybos stilių,

 net galva sukasi nuo spalvų bei ornamentų. Mus įkvėpė gond stilius, būdingas

didžiausiai centrinės Indijos genčiai. Tradiciškai ant sienų namuose piešdavo moterys,

naudodamos paprastus ochros, rudos ir juodos spalvų namų gamybos dažus. 

 Viskas, ko reikėjo - keturių talentingų rankų ir keleto valandų, ir Mokshoje išdygo 

stebuklingas medis. Karvė ir paukštis užsuko ir nepanoro išeiti.. Šis mielas trio įnešė į

praprastą interjerą truputį saldumo ir šilumos.
